Living With Hypothyroidism

Newsgroups and Support Groups

You may find it helpful to visit online newsgroups such as www.altsupportthyroid.org and thyroid.about.com. These sites are focused on thyroid health issues. Remember that these sites do not substitute for the professional opinion of a doctor.

You may want to start your own local thyroid support group. You can start by giving the group a name. You will need to find a place to hold meetings. Let people know about your group through the local newspaper. You may also want to post fliers at clinics and waiting rooms. Sharing your experiences with others living with hypothyroidism may be helpful to you.

A Healthy Lifestyle

There are many ways that you can make living with hypothyroidism easier. First and foremost, take your medication as prescribed by your doctor. Also, you should not smoke since this can affect your thyroid.1 Some people with hypothyroidism experience insomnia and fatigue. Always try to get a full night of sleep. Eat right, exercise and drink plenty of water.
